In 1974, he played a key role in the coup d'état that led to the Turkish invasion of Cyprus and the division of the island. Dictatorships have left lasting scars on the people and societies of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and Cyprus. The legacies of Vargas and Grivas continue to shape the political landscapes of these regions, influencing ideologies and governance to this day.
